A Playful Hudson Valley Camp Wedding

When Cathy and Dom shared visions of their Hudson Valley camp wedding, we couldn’t wait to roll up our sleeves. It was time to get to work. After all, untraditional weddings are our specialty over here. Not just because they are rising in popularity – we’ve been avoiding ballrooms for almost a decade now. This sweet and adventurous couple wanted an adult camp vibe for their wedding. They wanted to host somewhere their family and friends could gather for the weekend and just have fun. Naturally, we fully embraced the vibes and brought it to life (keep scrolling!).

It might surprise you, but Cathy and Dom actually had never been to Timber Lake Camp as children. The space wasn’t sentimental. But, when they toured the space as a potential venue and saw the giant “Timber Lake Camp” sign that you first see beyond the lake as you approach the venue, Cathy’s first thought was: “how cool would it be if we could get a custom sign for their wedding weekend that guests could see from a distance when they first arrive?”. It was one of the favorite (unexpected!) details from their Hudson Valley camp wedding!

If you are considering a Hudson Valley camp wedding (or want to see what other exciting outdoor wedding venues exist for you in the Hudson Valley, learn more about working with our team here! Full-service planning and design is our signature service, but we also help with wedding venue selection separately too.

Outdoor Wedding Ceremony

We always love hearing how our couple’s love stories start! Cathy and Dom met on Hinge three years ago when he liked the photo of her getting teary-eyed at a wedding. Fast forward to now, there was nothing but big smiles and tears of joy as she walked down the aisle, and they exchanged vows in front of the lake. Wildflowers were key to the playful and vibrant design and covered the ceremony arch that stood at the center of where Cathy and Dom were pronounced husband and wife!

Planning a Hudson Valley Camp Wedding

Although Cathy and Dom wanted their wedding to be beautiful, they also wanted it to be a true celebration with their guests. The experience of the camp weekend was (almost!) as important as the wedding itself. While a few guests stayed off-site, most of their guests stayed at Timber Lake Camp (Camp Cat Dom!) for the entire weekend. They wanted plenty of activities throughout the weekend. Nothing glamorous but still pretty, unique, and comfortable for their guests! Honestly, this is a growing trend. Couples have been increasingly prioritizing guest experience over the last few years. Personally, we are HERE for it.

A Playful Outdoor Wedding Reception

When we started to design Cathy and Dom’s wedding vision, we wanted to create something that felt like an elegant party while embracing some of the camp-like decor elements and bright summer wildflower colors. With a bicycle welcome sign and playful centerpieces at every table, you could truly embrace all the fun adult camp vibes. Without sacrificing the luxury and comforts, we now appreciate as adults. Everything came together perfectly. Cathy and Dom’s guests could eat, toast, and dance under the stars all night!

A Memorable Hudson Valley Camp Wedding

While Cathy and Dom identify more as a couple who likes evenings in, we were thrilled to be able to capture their more adventurous spirits during this Hudson Valley camp wedding. When we started working together, they had just returned from a trip to India and Sri Lanka before the pandemic. Then, they recently spent two weeks working remotely in Mexico City. Their Honeymoon? Was on a safari in Tanzania. Followed by a “beach vacation” in Zanzibar. We loved showing off that side of them on their wedding day! From Thursday to Sunday, everyone had a fantastic time. It was one of those weekends you never wanted to end. Congratulations, Cathy and Dom!
